Ouch! Last month Greenpeace won a battle against the world’s largest palm oil buyers
Greenpeace systematically went after first Unilever (through Dove), then Nestle (KitKat), and finally Cargill, to stop demand for palm oil from Sinar Mas. And won. Even though certified palm oil is $10/tonne more.
Nestle said it would switch suppliers, while Unilever, the world’s largest buyer of palm oil, scrapped a $33 million contract with Sinar Mas after Greenpeace published the report. Cargill, the world’s largest trader of agricultural commodities, said it would stop buying from Sinar Mas if allegations were confirmed… Financial Times, p1, 25 March, 2010
Active campaigns around deforestation, agriculture, biofuels, mining, rare earth metals, and water are making brand owners and their suppliers sensitive to pressure and even delisting. That kind of campaign disrupts your business in all the wrong ways – you start to feel under siege, nobody seems to understand your business, and you have to find solutions on the fly.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
That’s why we’ve developed a workshop to help you get a jump on the campaigns. In a highly interactive day, we’ll help you get in the minds of the NGOs, understand how they work, and develop your strategies. So that you come out of any engagement with a reputation stronger than when you started.
The workshop: June 25
Winning with Greenpeace
Takes you inside the mindset of NGOs to help you understand their needs and how they perceive you. You will learn when to engage with NGOs, how to develop productive engagement strategies and how to choose the optimum NGO partners.
To make this even more useful, our partner at SigWatch, Robert Blood, is offering a deeper look at how NGOs develop winning campaign strategies against brands, in his How Greenpeace Wins workshop, June 24 – repeated after the sell-outs in London, Brussels and Washington this spring.
The two workshops can be attended singly or in tandem, and will be held back-to-back in Brussels on June 24-25.
The cost: €650+VAT 10% discount for SIGWatch subscribers (to sign up for SIGWatch or for more information click here).
